A highway sign pole is used to support warning signs, prohibition signs, directional signs, exit advance signs, and lane guidance panels on highways. The support structure can be selected according to the sign size, installation position, and number of traffic lanes covered.

 

Available structural forms include single-post, double-post, single-cantilever F-type, and double-cantilever T-type designs. Single-post and double-post structures are suitable for highway shoulders, locations outside roadside guardrails, and general roadside traffic signs. Cantilever structures extend the sign panel toward or above the traffic lanes. They can be used at ramp merging areas, highway exits, interchange sections, and locations requiring multi-lane direction information.

 

The pole diameter, wall thickness, height, and foundation cannot be selected only by the sign category. These parameters should be determined according to the sign panel area, project wind load, installation drawings, and foundation design.

 

Single-Post and Double-Post Configurations

Common single-post pipe diameters include Φ114 mm, Φ140 mm, Φ165 mm, and Φ219 mm. The typical wall thickness is 4–6 mm, and the pole height is normally 3.5–5 m.

 

Double-post structures commonly use Φ165 mm or Φ219 mm posts. Their wall thickness is normally 5–8 mm, with a typical height of 4–6 m. A double-post structure can provide two support points for wider sign panels when required by the project drawing.

 

For cantilever systems, the main post diameter can be Φ273 mm, Φ325 mm, Φ377 mm, or Φ426 mm. The main post wall thickness is normally 6–12 mm. Cantilever lengths range from 3 m to 12 m, and the cantilever pipe diameter is commonly Φ140–219 mm. The total structure height is usually 6–9 m.

 

The listed dimensions are common configurations rather than universal specifications. Each highway sign pole should be produced according to the approved structural and foundation drawings.

 

Drawing Review and Steel Fabrication

After receiving the structural drawing, the technical team can check the pipe diameter, wall thickness, pole height, cantilever length, flange holes, and traffic sign installation position. Transport restrictions can also be reviewed to determine whether long components should be divided into sections for on-site assembly.

 

Customized products enter batch production after the first piece or key structural details have been confirmed. Photos of welding, galvanizing, and component assembly can be provided during production. Buyers may also appoint a third party to inspect the steel material, dimensions, welds, and surface treatment.

 

Packing, Delivery, and Installation Checks

Large highway sign pole structures are normally produced according to drawings. The production schedule is confirmed according to the technical documents, quantity, and project delivery requirements.

 

Long poles and cantilever components are classified and bundled for transportation. Their ends can receive additional protection, while flanges, bolts, and smaller connecting parts are packed separately. Timber reinforcement can be added inside the container.

 

Traffic signs and support structures can be numbered according to the installation location. Large orders may be delivered in batches to match the construction schedule.

 

Before installation, the buyer should check the concrete foundation, embedded bolts, flange dimensions, and structural drawing version. This helps prevent installation problems caused by differences between the civil foundation and the fabricated steel structure.
